Mobilizing Fiji’s macro-moth collection data to enhance knowledge and encourage biodiversity protection

In Partnership with the South Pacific Regional Herbarium and GBIF, this project aims to ensure that a preliminary identifications for all physical moth specimens are verified and curated as well as properly catalogue all available moth data collected in Fiji.

This project is funded by the European Union.

This is the first step towards mobilizing important Fijian biodiversity data.

The availability of this baseline data will help identify moth specimens collected during other biodiversity surveys and rapid assessments in Fiji and across the Pacific in future moth research.

Calliteara fidjiensis is one of Fiji′s endemic macromoths. Approximately 50% of Fiji′s moths are endemic, and more are still to be discovered.
