Migratory Shorebirds Spotting with Mark
Saturday, September 26, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
F$10Migratory Shorebirds Spotting
Join Mark O’Brien for a view across the tidal mudflats to see the range of migratory shorebirds.
The tidal area around Suva is an important wintering area for shorebirds – including the highest density of Wandering Tattlers in the world.
Learn about the different species of birds. As the tide rises the birds will come closer and closer before they fly off to roost – at which point we might move along the shore towards the University for a second chance to see birds on the sand bar opposite the National Stadium.
End of September is when the Godwits arrive and with luck you may spot around 100 individuals − some maybe even in nice plumage!
Meet along the seafront walkway
Meet along the seafront walkway between Suva Park and the former Fringing Reef Bar, (now a newly painted yellow building) opposite the drive to the Cathedral Secondary School.
Look out for Mark and volunteers with 2-3 telescopes set up.

Prior to moving to Fiji 5 years ago he lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he spent a large part of his working life researching and applying conservation action for the benefit of breeding shorebirds.
Mark is also known for his love for Rugby, having played when he was younger and is a mad Bath Rugby Team supporter.
