Inspired by Nature - A Flock of Socks!

4th June 2016 (Saturday morning 10am to 12pm) at Fiji Museum Veranda,

Bring your clean odd socks and join our talented artist, Anne, at Fiji Museum’s veranda for an eco-friendly creative fun, transforming socks into bird puppets.

  • Be inspired and discover more about some of Fiji’s amazing native birds
  • Use your imagination. Design and create whacky bird puppets using socks, recycled fabrics and googly eyes.

Materials and equipment will be provided but do bring along clean lonely odd socks, fabric scraps, buttons, beads, and anything else you might use to decorate your hand puppet. Be prepared to be surprised by your own creations which you will love to give to loved ones. Warning: You may get very attached to it!
Meet at the Fiji Museum Veranda (Thurston Gardens, Suva) at 9.45am.
Workshop is expected to last two hours.

For ages 7 -70+ years!

Younger children must be accompanied by an adult to help them as sewing may be required.

Due to space constraint, limited places are available. Please book and pay early. Cost: $10 for member. $15 for non- member.

Bring your own drinks. Perhaps stay on at the gardens after the workshop with a picnic.

Anne O’Brien

Anne O’Brien is an artist with a passion for conservation and a background in environmental education.

She loves using locally sourced recycled fabrics to make life-like sculptures and puppets of endangered and extinct creatures to make a difference in conservation.

She can often be found in Suva’s second-hand shops feeling clothes for her next creation! This has raised a few eyebrows and questions.

She loves a challenge and once made a bird from a takeaway coffee cup!

Anne is a volunteer with NatureFiji-MareqetiViti, sharing ideas for education, workshops, painting and making assorted animals for awareness-raising.

She worked on the newly launched NTF Discovery Centre with the team at Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park. Anne’s ‘Anniemals’ are often being used around the globe for conservation education
